Technical features:
There are two types of wooden arrowheads, Screw-On and Glue-On:
Screw-On are all the points with a hole and internal thread that are screwed on the rods without the addition of glue and therefore make the installation and the replacement of the tips fast and simple, this is why most of our points for wooden arrows are Screw-on.
Glue-On are, conversely, points with a threadless hole that must be inserted on the rod using a special glue. This system has disadvantages in terms of practicality, but the fixing is without a doubt excellent. Our Whistling tips are example of great Glue-on tips.
The Tipping Point method:
To maintain our very high product standards and always supply excellent products, every point goes through all these steps before being commercialized.
Design:
At the base of a good arrow point, there is experience and a lot of study. Starting from an idea, we at Tipping Point develop all our points on 3D models, study the possible issues and process products that could solve them.
Experience also gives us the ability to identify the right construction limits to obtain a product that is always up to the challenges it will face.
Testing:
During the production of all of our points tests are carried out that allow us to check the impact resistance and the correct installation on the shafts.
Furthermore, we check the construction limits, weights and surface finish to be sure of the quality of our product.
Technology:
The production of our points, start in the workshop where the maximum precision of the numerical control machines and the dedication of those who use them make it possible to materialize all our ideas.
Each point is processed starting from bars of various materials and for each lot all the construction aspects that characterize the points are carefully dealt with.
Thread:
The precision of the conical threading of the our points ensures the impeccable fixing of the tip, moreover the special design allows the introduction on the wooden rod easily and perfectly fitting the axis to avoid the unbalance of the shaft.
Diameter:
The outside diameter of our points is designed to fit the shaft perfectly and improve the ease of extraction from the targets.
The maximum respect for limits, even for the internal diameter ensures the extreme ease of inserting the point on the shaft.
Weight:
Each material has a different specific weight and each process requires precision to respect the desired weight. During the production of the tips, we pay a lot of attention to weight control, thus always remaining within the tolerance of ± 1 Grains.
Installation:
All Tipping Point wooden rod tips have an internal section divided into two parts: in the first millimetres the hole is smooth and then the conical threading begins. This is to help align the shaft and the point before starting to screw it.
The wooden shaft must be properly tapered before being inserted into the points to fit better the thread. Tipping Point therefore provides a series of sharpeners designed to create the right taper on each type of shaft.
Material:
The materials we use for the production of our wooden arrowheads are mainly two:
Steel:
Only the best steel guarantees durability and precision, and the certainty that measurements and weights are fully respected.
To ensure durability and give a more "aged" finish to the tips, they are treated superficially with a browning process that gives the typical black colour.
A novelty in the finish process of our wooden arrow points is the nickel plating which provides the typical silver colour.
Brass:
The second material widely used for the construction of wooden arrowheads is brass, a nobler material with a characteristic golden colour. It has a greater specific weight than steel but a lower mechanical resistance that prevents the shaft from breaking in case of strong impacts.
